Ruth Garner, Learn Net Advisors & Research

Net-Bourn plays a part in equalising opportunities for people unable to come to a traditional college course because of their busy work life, or because they are fully employed looking after a family or others. Some people may not be able to attend college because they have a physical disability or mental ill health and may have difficulties in getting to a college or in keeping to a timetabled programme.

In addition, some people may feel very self-conscious about stepping back into education  or training but this can be made easier by starting in a virtual college where you can join others when you want to and take as long as you want to complete activities.

To help new learners in the UK Dirtectgov Centres we will be looking for volunteers from the local community who will act as mentors and who can be on-hand while people are getting used to working in Net-Bourn.

Net Bourn is a virtual extension of Bournville College of Further Education
