The Square Club
Edgbaston and
Northfield Youth Service.
The centre was purpose built for Youth Work in
1936 and has periodically been modernised. It is situated just off
the main shopping square in the centre of Weoley Castle and is accessed by
it's own private drive.
The centre is comprised of :- Reception area, 2
offices, fully modernised kitchen, coffee bar/dance area, lounge/meeting
rooms, arts and crafts room, gym /sports hall, games / dance room and a
large outdoor sports area with flood lighting.

It has access and
toilet facilities for wheelchair users. The centre is well resourced, due to the efforts of users.
The centre is well used both during the day
and in the evenings, but we are continually looking at developing the
programme to meet the needs of young people and the wider community.
During the summer, building work will be taking place to
create a new office and to convert the existing office and reception area
into an I.T. suite
The I.T suite will have 20 computers including
one touch screen activation, one voice activation and one will have a
video link up. The computers will be linked up to the Internet.
there will also be several printers, scanners and digital cameras.
From
September we will be providing a full programme. This will include
virtual tutoring courses, courses in basic computer skills, use of Word,
data processing, Publisher and Excel. There will also be interest
courses using the 'net', courses to show how to get the best out of the
Internet, family sessions and free sessions when members of the community
can come in and do their own work and go on the Internet
It is hoped that the I.T. suite will be available six days a week from
early morning to late evening all year round.
